Wolsingham Wayfarers recently completed a project to replace the signs for our popular 1.5 mile Wolsingham Family Walk. As well as replacing the old signs, we have installed a new covered sign in Demesne Car Park and a wall-mounted sign on the back of the Town Hall. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this project, particularly the support we received from Wolsingham Parish Council, Weardale Action Partnership, and CA Group Ltd.
We would like to invite all walkers past, present and future to attend our annual general meeting at 7pm on June 14th in Wolsingham Methodist Church. The meeting gives us an opportunity to present our achievements over the past year, and for you to have your input into the way Wolsingham Wayfarers is run as a registered charity. Hope to see as many of you there as possible.

We hosted the first walk of the North Pennines Walking Festival yesterday (well OK, we were walk no. 3, but it was still the first day). Seven humans and one dog walked 15 miles along the Weardale Way from Wolsingham to Rookhope. We took a few detours to avoid some poorly maintained sections of the Way, so we only actually saw the river twice! The weather was dry but muggy, and we only met one grumpy cow, two walkers and LOTS of C2C cyclists. Photos on Flickr
The North Pennines Walking Festival is nearly here, and we are hosting the first walk - the Weardale Way from Wolsingham to Rookhope (16 miles). The festival caters for all abilities and ages, and the theme this year is the Pennine Way.
Diana Denbury, Festival organiser, says "This year's festival will run from Saturday 26th September to Sunday 4th October 2015 and the programme aims to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Pennine Way, however, it will also encompass and celebrate other long-distance trails within the North Pennines AONB, such as the Weardale & Teesdale Way, Bowes loop and Isaac’s Tea Trail. Additional walks such as the Ravenber's Way will also feature in the programme."
To view the walks and book your place please visit the Friends of the North Pennines website.
Our next Thursday walk is August 27th. Bollihope Common to Wolsingham. As we are using the Community Transport bus there will be a £2.50 bus fare and all walkers must be booked.
The bus will collect at 10am at the market place and deliver us to Bollihope for a gentle, five mile/ 2.5-3hr walk back to Wolsingham.
£2.50 towards the cost of transport will be collected on the day. Seats are limited so early booking is recommended. Please call 01388 528480 to book your seat.
We have completely revamped our series of walk leaflets. The routes have been simplified, the step-by-step instructions improved, and new photos added. Outlets up and down the dale are carrying our leaflets, and some have already run out! Pick up your free copy, or download a printable version from our website.
Thanks to Ian (design and re-write) and Yasmine (photos)!
